Overview

Project Goals

The Electrical Box Murals program transforms ordinary pieces of streetscape infrastructure into opportunities for public art. The initiative aims to reduce the visual impact of utility equipment while creating neighbourhood-scale artworks that reflect Yonge + St. Clair’s culture, history, architecture, diversity, and continually evolving identity.

Community Impact

The murals create small moments of discovery while replacing visually utilitarian surfaces with colourful local expression. Collectively, the installations help make the public realm feel more cared for, distinctive, engaging, and connected to community identity.

Looking Ahead

An Everyday Gallery

Artists develop unique, site-responsive designs for individual electrical boxes, using either painted finishes or durable vinyl wraps. Completed artworks receive protective anti-graffiti coatings to improve longevity. This approach uses the mundane to integrate art into the urban sphere!

Quick Facts

  • Designs may be painted directly onto surfaces or installed as vinyl wraps

  • Protective anti-graffiti coatings are incorporated to increase durability and help preserve the installations
